The Achtung-Beachtung project, translated into English as Attention – Pay Attention, was born in 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when many professions faced severe restrictions on their activities. I was personally affected by these limitations and, like many in the artistic field, was unable to make music with or for others for months.

This period of isolation led me to become aware of what restrictions on our rights and freedoms can cause and I felt the need to express myself through music, speaking more particularly to women, in a situation of extreme isolation, even confinement.Having received a grant from the Baden-Württemberg region in Germany to undertake an artistic project, I conceived a musical programme that honours women, celebrating their rights and femininity.

My initial goal was, and remains, to bring this programme to women’s prisons. However, as access to prisons was restricted during the pandemic, the project initially took the form of a film. This film provides an overview of the selected musical pieces and explores philosophical ideas surrounding the feminine cycle and femininity in general.

Following the completion of the film, the programme was performed live twice in the spring of 2023 in Murrhardt, Germany, as part of the Villa Franck and its park. Spanning an entire day, the musical interventions took place from morning until evening, interspersed with readings and culinary and philosophical pauses, centred around themes of freedom and femininity.

The programme is built around several interconnected cyclical phenomena: the female cycle, the cycle of the seasons, the cycles of the sun and moon, and the cycle of life.

Listeners are invited on a musical journey celebrating twelve female composers from different eras and backgrounds. Each of these women worked at a high artistic level, regardless of the constraints imposed by their time, society, or status as women.
